A Devotion for Tax Day
I created this little devotion back in 2013 for a staff gathering. It still seems relevant today. I’ve adjusted my thinking about taxes to where I see it as patriotic to pay taxes. Patriotic is not a word I often use. Why not see paying taxes as bond investing in our Nation and local communities. What still set’s me off is the notion that our President, and many like him, don’t pay taxes because their wealth protects them from paying their fair share for the Nation’s common good. And, corporations should pay for the privilege to use the roads, water, sewer system, and power systems that benefit communities rather than receive tax breaks. It is the common good, not the profit motive, that must adjust our thinking about what everyone pays and how everyone pays. Happy patriot tax day. Maybe the President will show the Nation his before asking for our vote. Not.
